Plant Cell

This time, in the lab, we observed onion cells under the microscope. The onion had to be stained with iodine as it is colourless, which, placed in simple english, cannot be seen.

Question:Why is there no chlorophyll in a onion cell?
Answer: The bulb of the onion is below ground where there is no sunlight, therefore it would be pointless for the bulb to contain chlorophyll. The leaves of the onion plant do in fact have chlorophyll.
